Salt Lake LDS Tabernacle
Home to the world famous Mormon Tabernacle Choir, with nearly 7 million visitors annually and a top 20 national tourist attraction rating, the Salt Lake Tabernacle is arguably the most famous of Utah’s historic pioneer structures.
Completed in 1867, the Tabernacle hosts church conferences, meetings, and community events. In addition, world leaders and twelve different sitting U.S. Presidents have spoken from the Tabernacle pulpit.
In 2005 the facility was closed for two years to complete major structural improvements and to remodel the existing facilities while still preserving the historic integrity of the structure. Our scope of work included installing structural steel in the attic to support theatrical equipment and chandeliers. We also performed extensive structural and miscellaneous metal fabrication and installation backstage, underground, and on the organ façade.
It was certainly a treat to see firsthand the pioneer craftsmanship up close and to gain an appreciation of what they built with so little access to iron, timber, and other traditional building materials and equipment.
